Consultation: New Parallel Crossing on Thame Road
The Parish Council is pleased to see Buckinghamshire Highways bringing forward the plans for a new parallel crossing on Thame Road near to the station. The proposal has resulted from the Streetscapes Project started by the Parish Council in 2023, which involved consultation with the community to identify the main issues resulting from the impact of increased traffic in the village due to recent growth. There have been several incidents where pedestrians have been hit by vehicles crossing the road at this point.
This scheme will deliver the first phase of the project for improvements for pedestrians and cyclists on Thame Road and is possible due to the financial contribution from Cala Homes included the S106 agreement for the Airfield development, which has been topped up by a grant awarded to Buckinghamshire Council.
The proposal includes:
- a raised carriageway table with a zebra and parallel cycle crossing,
- converting the existing footway into a shared-use pedestrian and cycle facility,
- widening the footway to improve access to a bus stop,
- increasing the width of the existing shared-use pedestrian and cycle facility to 3 metres
- relocating two existing bus stops and
- amendment of parking restrictions by removing the existing section of parking to accommodate the proposed crossing
