Church End Pond

Published: 16 September 2022

The Parish Council will be undertaking essential pond maintenance next week over the period of 21st – 23rd September.

This dry summer has resulted in the pond’s water level being at its lowest for many years. This has given the Council the opportunity to commence a conservation project to remove the excess silt which has built up over the last 40 years (when it was last removed). By acting now, we can ensure the pond is preserved and remains in a healthy state for the wildlife.

The work will encompass the excavation of the silt and being put on the side of the pond for 24 hours. This allows the silt to drain and any wildlife the opportunity to return to the pond. The silt is then being taken to a nearby site to be used.

We envisage that there will be some damage to the grass area surrounding the pond. Once the work has been completed, there will be remedial work to restore this area.

The small road area by the pond, will have barriers to allow the safe storage of the machinery needed to complete this project.
