Snakemoor Diary - Winter 2010
2010 has begun with an impressive 150mm of snow in Snakemoor, the deepest since the reserve's beginnings twenty three years ago! Soon it's to be out with the snow fall and in with the snow drops, so get ready for the wonderful first signs of spring in a few weeks time.
Progress towards a footpath to the reserve (see 'Announcements) With grant applications made to the lottery, local industries and organisations, the first donations are already in! Councillor Margaret Aston has made available her delegated County Council budget for a local project and Haddenham Mummers have donated part of their Christmas collection. More donations have been named by the Real Ale Festival and McCormick UK, so a great start.
Consultants from Network Rail have visited to discuss whether Snakemoor could assist the drainage problems on the railway line and industrial site, and thereby benefit the pond and ditch in retaining more water.
Spring time has arrived!
Hedgelaying and tree planting at the work group on 6th March
A hard working work group of sixteen volunteers set to task hedge laying, tree planting, restoring bird boxes and further spreading of snowdrops. As a result, Snakemoor has 45 new trees including Box, Holly, Yew, Spindle, Wayfaring and Wild privet. Following this the orchard trees were pruned.

The U3A gardening group were given a tour and have been enjoying, along with many others the fabulous snow drops. The group kindly donated £16 for future plants
