Diary - 2008
The comments made by many visitors to Snakemoor - all favourable – say everything. Some even said that the Snowdrops were the best seen at any public showing. Indeed all the spring flowers except the primroses have been excellent.
Donations from the Haddenham & District Rotary Club, Haddenham Beer Festival, Princes Risborough U3A, and two individuals raised £850. This sort of support and that from the many volunteers also suggests we have a real gem. We can add to this the very favourable comment from the Judges of the Best Kept Village – ‘The Snakemoor wild life area shows excellent interest and COMMITMENT on the part of the villagers involved with it’.
Much of the money raised has not been spent, mainly because the help from both professional and other assistance has kept the costs low. This was especially so when trees had to be removed for safety reasons. An accumulating fund will however enable future projects including a footpath to the reserve. Negotiations for the latter continue.
The clearing of small rubbish has to be a continuing operation. Why do people have to drop sweet papers and discard empty beer cans and bottles? On rubbish we had two firsts this year. Firstly a soiled but unused two-man tent thrown away in a black plastic bag. Secondly a plastic bag thrown into the hedge containing a large fat Goldfish (200 mm. long).
It is excellent that Snakemoor has a place within the new Parish Council web site. Improvements to this will provide a true representation of the reserve.
Finally many thanks to those who help or donate and of course for the welcome help from Jim Ayres and Martin Green our photographer.
